WHAT IS A DOULA?

A doula is a professional labor support person, who is a trained expert at getting women through the process of labor and birth. Doulas support physiologic normal births and also attend births in a variety of settings. Doulas are trained to provide physical and emotional support and education.

CORA FAITH WALKER SCHOLARSHIP

The Cora Faith Walker Scholarship is to commemorate the legacy of Cora Faith Walker who was dedicated to decreasing infant and Maternal mortality for black families in the State of Missouri.

Scholarship recipients will be trained in Uzazi Village Birth & Postpartum Doula method and Lactation support. In addition to becoming Uzazi Village trained Birth & Postpartum Doulas and Peer Community Lactation Counselors. The Cora Faith Walker Scholarship also includes the coverage of Uzazi Villages Certification Fee.

This scholarship is for Missouri Residents only. Uzazi Village is located in Kansas City, Mo and will be hosting training in Kansas City, Mo, Columbia Mo, and Springfield Mo. This scholarship program immerses participants in 2 intensive modules: 

  • Prenatal Doula & Postpartum Doula

– Must be 18 years or older

– Must attend all sessions — no class makeups.
– Must be a resident of Kansas City, Mo. and surrounding communities.
